Top 10 Winter Resorts

Still deciding on whether to travel somewhere during winter break? Not to worry, we’ve collated a list of the Top 10 places we think you will love – from skiing in France, soaking the sun at a beach in South Africa, or relaxing at a spa in Lake District. Whatever the experience, our picks will help you decide!

  • Courchevel, France

Clinging on to the 10th spot for the 4th year in a row is the swankiest ski resort in the 3 Valleys ski area, Courchevel. This beautiful part of the Alps isn’t all about the exclusive properties, as it also provides a range of budget options for your stay. Courchevel offers outstanding panoramic views and pretty pistes winding through forests.

  • St Anton, Austria

St Anton is still the king of Austria with the largest amount of visitors. The incredible après scene keeps bringing back thousands of UK skiers and snowboarders each winter. The recommended chalets include Chalet Janus and Chalet Hotel Rosanna for visitors that want a change from skiing in France.

  • Val D’Isere – France

With a world class ski area, beautiful village and over 80 properties on offer, it’s no surprise Val d’Isere has peaked to one of the top spots as the most popular ski resort in Europe. The announcement of 2 new hotels, new welcome centre, new shopping space, and new underground walkway at Le Coin village centre is to be a definite anticipation for future visitors

  • Whitlingham Broad Campsite, Norfolk

Situated on an 80 acre Country Park, this is both a gateway to the Broads as well as a city-escape basecamp that includes traditional camping plus bundles of outdoor activities. There’s also a couple of cosy shepherds’ huts, with views overlooking the lake – perfect for this time of year.

  • Blackberry Wood, East Sussex

This camping site includes glamping offerings that are quirky to say the least. Also, as it is located in the heart of East Sussex, there are plenty of outdoor activities that cater to both families and individuals looking to explore on their break.

  • Velas, India

Stretching 450 miles south from Mumbai, west India’s Konkan coast is dotted with unspoilt beaches and fortified towns, offering a taste of local village life. A notable event that should be on your list if you decide to visit Velas is the famed ‘Velas Turtle Festival’, an ecotourism event of endangered olive Ridley turtles laying their eggs on the beach between November and December.

  • Keurboomstrand, South Africa

Located on the Western Cape, Keurboomstrand exhibits a scenic, pristine beach. Due to its rip currents it is not a swimming beach, however the lagoon is safe and warm to visit, whilst the beach can be used to observe countless bottlenose dolphins, and during the winter humpback and southern right whales with their calves.

  • Reykjavik, Iceland

Famous for its Blue Lagoon, Godafoss and volcanic landscapes, Reykjavik also offers cultural spots to explore, including the Hallgrímskirkja Cathedral and Harpa Concert Hall. Make sure to catch the Northern Lights this winter, as Reykjavik provides the best views of ‘Aurora Borealis’. If you miss out, don’t worry, in February they also hold a Winter Lights festival in the city.

  • Dormy House, Cotswolds

This award winning hotel and spa provides luxury and tradition in abundance. The Scandic-Chic House Spa is the central focus of the hotel, while the hotel is a farmhouse conversion, emulating a warm atmosphere with log fires and friendly service. With a gym, thermal suite, sauna, salt therapy room, rhassoul mud room and an outdoor hot tub, there are plenty of activities to keep you relaxed throughout the winter break.

  • Gilpin Hotel & Lake House, Lake District

Gilpin Hotel and Lake House is a world away from the bustling Lake District touristy scene. The main hotel is Georgian and a great place to book a few nights to get away. There’s outdoor adventure on offer: walking, mountain biking, fishing. The Spa is in a wood cabin by the lake, making this getaway one of the most scenic places to relax.
